Hardcore vs. Softcore: Intramurals For All

As Bobcat fans anxiously await the start of each B.U team’s season (coming to a gym near you this October), their athletics appetite can be quenched by the many clubs and intramural opportunities offered through the Campus Recreation Program.

Last week, the Quill ran a story listing a few opportunities to get involved with campus rec. However, many new students, or students that don’t have much to do with the BU gymnasium are unaware or unsure of what exactly is offered through this program—including workout facilities available at an extremely low cost compared to local fitness clubs.

As of publication, the following clubs are listed under the 2009-2010 year’s campus recreation schedule:

· Aerobics · Badminton · Belly Dancing · Curling League (interuniversity) · Fencing Club · Judo · Recreational Indoor Soccer · Kickboxing · Yoga · Tai Chi

Many of the above clubs are available at no-or-low cost to BU students, and although each club has unique skill sets and levels, any level is welcome for most, if not all of them. Alongside these clubs are Intramurals, which also offer a host of other chances to keep fit—with leagues and tournaments running throughout the entire school year, there is fun to be had in joining a team in one of the following activities:

· (3-3) Co-Ed Basketball · Co-Ed Slo Pitch · Touch Football · Curling League · (3-3) Soccer · (3-3) Beach Volleyball · Co-Ed Floor Hockey · Co-Ed Volleyball · Co-Ed Badminton Tournament (singles & doubles) · Bowl-a-rama Evening · Road Hockey Tournament · Ice Hockey Tournament · Archery Tournament

And there are many, many more—so if you’re into hardcore ice hockey, or you’d rather participate in table tennis, there is a Campus Rec activity for you. See inside the BU gym or online at brandonu.ca’s athletics page for more info.
