The Forbidden Bean Appears on Campus Once More
With multiple choices for coffee now on campus, students can once again frequent the busy hallway in the Knowles Douglas Student Union Building and fill up with a fresh cup of coffee between classes.
A new look, and a bigger space has morphed what was once Java Jive and Little Guy’s Cafe into a fourth Forbidden Flavours in Brandon.
What’s so special about Forbidden Flavours? Well, there are a few things that come to mind. To begin with, both medium and dark roasts are fair trade. While an extra large cup of coffee may cost $2.00, still only .29 cents more than the well known competition, it has the added benefit of being fair trade.
Secondly, healthy food options! Ranging from salads to protein bars made by Katy, and an assortment of granola bars, Forbidden has stepped up to offer a variety of options to students on the go.
Vegetarian options also appear in the new coffee shop, with a guarantee that one soup of the day will be vegetarian, there is little doubt in my mind that options exist here for a variety of students, professors and staff on campus.
Is it expensive? Well, that depends entirely on what you order. While the specialty drinks are more than a regular coffee, they are delicious, and a great treat. Coincidentally, the prices at the campus location are cheaper than the other locations in town. While you can’t use your Forbidden Flavours loyalty card here, you can save EVERY time you buy coffee.
The last thing that comes to mind, is that students can finally get espresso on campus. While this may not excite masses of people, for anyone with a deep love of coffee, or a deep rooted addiction, there now exists the means to satisfy a craving.
So is that all there is to this new location? Not at all...
After a brief discussion with the owner last night, I discovered that soon our local coffee shop will branch into paninis and also offers bagels, muffins and fresh fruit.
While we may have waited a long time for it to open, and the wait was at times excruciating, once again coffee is near at hand between classes and on those late nights studying. Forbidden Flavours is open until 9pm, to help you keep going through the term
