Rookie and veteran students at BU will find that there is an abundance of on-campus clubs with which to get involved. These clubs vary in content, with focus ranging from English to Zoology and covering everything in between.

Sports-wise, many BU students regularly venturing inside the gymnasium are destined for education programs and careers. For these students, BUPEC is the ideal group to join.

The Brandon University Physical Education Club, or ‘BUPEC’, is a stepping-stone for career opportunities for current or aspiring Phys. Ed students, although anyone may join. Club President, Holly Windsor, urged “Although its benefits are geared toward students wishing to become educators specialising in P.E, its opportunities can be helpful to any person who is interested, and all are welcome!” She noted that application forms can be filled out at the gym office. “Students wanting extra activity related to their future are provided with opportunities to attend guest speakers from different areas of the field to share their experiences.” For example, the previous year’s membership spoke to local high school phys. Ed instructors regarding the shift in curriculum due to the newly-implemented mandatory grade 11 and 12 gym classes in Manitoba schools. “We went and saw the new equipment and how they did it. We also learned about how grants can help and how important Phys Ed is now,” said Windsor.

The club is currently in fundraising mode, as Windsor explained that a current goal is to send members to national conferences in the future. BUPEC also aids in coaching clinics and events at BU. They will be hosting an Oct 1 social (“Get Physical”) at Houston’s Country Roadhouse, with tickets available at the gym office for $5 each. Later fundraising dates have not yet been cemented, but expect to see more of BUPEC this term. Says Windsor, “It’s just a great way to supplement your resumé and education program plans, and have fun doing it!”
