Davie Jones and the Bobcats

Now, it’s not a huge secret that I’m not an avid sports fan. Well to be completely honest, a sports anything. I had only attended some games in my life, one being a Wheat Kings game when I was little, a few Norway House Northstars hockey games back home and then a few summers ago to a Goldeyes game. And I know little of any of these. So here I face a huge challenge, being the Sports Editor for The Quill. So my first time attending a Bobcat basketball game I was able to experience it in two ways, would be three of I hadn’t forgotten my laptop here at the Quill. So the first one I find that is easiest to attend any sports event: there. I actually went on Friday night to watch both the Bobcat games, and was mildly impressed at how entertaining I found it.

The only fall back was that I had no one to explain to me what was going on. All I knew was that the ball went in the hoop and someone scored a goal, only that a goal was not just a goal. It was either worth one point, two points or three. Now if you have ever experienced a sink or swim experience, this was the first one I had experienced in a long while. So what do I do? Well, I sit back and watch what’s going on. I see that there’s a line where the points are worth 3, and anything inside that line is worth two (seriously, all on my own!) and then that when there’s a penalty shot (I’m not even sure if these are the right words to use) the points are worth one.

So apart from me being a fish out of water at a basketball game, I then realize that they serve beer at these things! Well I may not be an athlete; I know I can drink a fish under Davie Jones’s Locker. Away I Go!
