Coffee House Returns!...?

So, I’ve been a student at Brandon University for about four years now, and I must admit that some of my fondest memories have been those alcohol fueled nights around the pool table at SUDS. Good times, good friends, and, most importantly, cheap booze. In all honesty, SUDS is where I met most of the people I know in university. It is a great, no, scratch that, the best place on campus to meet fellow students that share like-minded ideas.

All summer long I eagerly anticipated the return to BU not for the chance to get back into a monotone classroom, but for the chance to get back to my old watering hole. This year it was different, much different. Many regulars (including past staff) seemed adamantly apathetic toward SUDS. I don’t know if it was the recent managerial overhaul or what, but people just seemed . . . well, apathetic about the ida of going to SUDS.

I know of an incident where a friend of mine, a long time patron of coffee house and someone that always drew a crowd, was kicked off stage. The details are scattered and I wont get into them now, but after that incident he refused to ever come back, and along with him SUDS lost a great deal of patrons.

Basically what I’m saying is that SUDS sucked big cock this year, and needless to say I was quite disappointed.

All this Changed as of last Wednesday, when I decided (almost reluctantly) to head down to SUDS for my buddy’s twenty-first birthday.

When I arrived I was surprised to see at least a couple dozen people drinking and mingling, which I found a rather encouraging sight. So much so, that I actually stuck around for the whole evening (the free pool likely had something to do with that) and had a great time.

There was no shortage of people willing to get up on stage and perform . . . you know, like what coffee house is supposed to be like. Yours truly even ended up behind the drum kit for a jam. What I’m really saying is that coffee house is back and it was an awesome time.

I am probably the only person that thought that after last night Buuuuuut, today I heard from a friend that due to financial difficulties BUSU might be taking over SUDS, or even closing. Now, this could all be rumor; and I could just be venting, but I caution you, if you let ‘lord pudding’ get his greasy fingers on our true meeting spot then be ready to look for another place to meet your fellow students. Good luck!
