Men’s Volleyball
When the Brandon University Men’s Volleyball squad swept the Regina Cougars at home just before Louis Riel Day, they earned the 3rd place spot in the Canada West Conference, along with a shot to host the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack for a playoff match Feb 26th and 27th.
Anyone keeping an eye on the hometown team is likely aware that there is not much in the way of love lost between these two teams, who have notably exercised their enmity off the court in the past. New students and fans may not know the further history of their rivalry—just two years ago this exact situation took place in the BU gym, where the Wolfpack rolled into town and knocked the ‘Cats out of contention in their own den.
Head Coach Russ Paddock’s group have doubtlessly trained hard in their two week break and will be raring to go Friday night in their bid to stay alive in Canada West playoffs. As Brandon is currently ranked 5th in CIS (12-6) as compared to Thompson Rivers’ 9th (10-8), 2010 might just be the year that Paul Sanderson and co. rewrite the history books. This weekend’s matches serve as conference quarter-finals.
