Q:

Dear Miss Q,

I’m having a difficult time with my exams. I don’t like my professors. However, I love what I’m studying. I just don’t seem to be able to get on top of my course load, and I’m not happy. Is it worth my time to keep trying?

Sincerely,

No Light at the End of the Tunnel

A:

Dear Light,

There is no simple answer to your question. If you stay, you may reach the end of your degree and find that it was entirely worth the hardships. Or, if you leave, you may find that the experiences you have while away from school are entirely worth leaving postsecondary education.

My advice? Sit down and talk it over with someone you respect. Discuss your options with your student advisor. You may be able to take a semester off, or even a year off, without being penalized if you choose to come back afterwards. Explore your options. Think about what you want to do after you finish your degree here.

There are a lot of facets to this discussion. Whether or not your time here is worth it will depend on what you choose to do with your education. Think it over.

Best wishes,

Miss Q
