Movies for the Season

Are you an introvert who dreads the idea of going out on the town? Or this is the one time of year where you can watch all your favourite films? Say no more! Here’s a list of movie recommendations to get your Halloween Movie Marathon started:

For those who have a young family and want to settle in with a movie everyone can enjoy: Monster House, Hotel Transylvania, Casper the Friendly Ghost, and the Halloween Town series are all great options. For children who are quite young or easily frightened, beware of some of the more scary bits of Monster House -— it’s animated, and marketed for children, but is perhaps best for kids over the age of eight or so.

If you prefer the classic Halloween movies, then literally anything by Tim Burton is excellent: Edward Scissorhands, -Sweeney Todd: Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Beetlejuice, and of course, The Nightmare Before Christmas (a movie for two major holidays!) are perfect. Other good choices in the ‘classics’ include Hocus Pocus, The Addams Family, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The last is more of a comedy than a spooky film, but it sets the mood just fine.

Last, but not least, there are the quintessential slasher flicks: any of the Saw movies, Stephen King’s IT (either the recent 2017 edition or the cringey original), or The Purge do the trick quite nicely.
