What is the single most anticipated September block party in Brandon? Rock the Block, of course! And this year could be your band’s turn to open for the entire event!

Organized by the Brandon University Students’ Union , Rock the Block is one of Brandon’s most highly-anticipated musical events of the year. Nabbing nationally renowned names like Bedouin Soundclash, the Trews, illScarlet, Faber Drive, and Down with Webster, the night of music and drinks is opened by the champion of BUSU’s local Battle of the Bands competition.

Battle of the Bands is a contest offering bands, groups and artists the chance to showcase their talent. Winners of the competition not only get the opportunity to open for big-name performers and snag exposure for possible future gigs, but also receive a $500 prize.

The battles will take place on August 7th, 14th and 21st.  Musical groups will be provided a drum kit, if needed. All other equipment is the responsibility of the group, including but not limited to amps, basses, guitars, snares, and cymbals.

All genres of music are eligible to apply, and the competition isn’t limited to just Brandon University students.

The deadline for applications with audio recordings is July 25th, and applications can be delivered to the BUSU office on campus.

Contestants who won this competition in previous years are no longer eligible to apply.
