Have your eardrums ever been blessed with the glorious sound of a screamo death/metal core trio, a “punk metal electronic improvisional/jazz and hiphop influenced two-piece drum and bass duo”, and a progressive metal/hardcore quintet all in one evening? Wander to Park Community Centre on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. and experience it firsthand as Brandon bands Stand Against This World and Fungus Puck hit the stage with Virden’s Torn From Flames for an all-ages performance.

“After taking almost three months off to focus on other endeavors, we’re all chomping at the bit to get back on stage,” said Torn From Flames drummer Carson Penner. “We haven’t played an all-ager in a while and it’s always a cool experience to see kids showing up to throw down.”

Bassist David Thiel, or “Cheese,” for Fungus Puck is also amped for the event. “I’m most looking forward to just getting on a stage again with my partner in grime, Mr. Justin Alcock.”

Both Fungus Puck and Torn From Flames competed in the Battle of the Bands Competition at the 2012 Brandon Summer Fair, with the energetic, head-banging charm of TFF pulling off a win, but there’s nothing but camaraderie between them.

“They are extremely talented,” Donovan Reimer, (one of two) lead guitarist from TFF said, “And I’m really excited to see them again.”

Reimer also says fans can expect the debut of a new song completed only a few weeks ago. “It’s more straight forward than some of our other stuff, a lot catchier and easy to listen to.”

While Thiel said fans will get to see their familiar “furious flying limbs, and maybe even have their chest[s] signed,” Stand Against This World is just glad to see the stage for the first time.

“It’s our first gig [and] we just hope to have some fun and do what we do,” said This World’s Eric Dallas and Nathaniel. “Look forward to some really technical drumming and guitar playing.”

Fungus and TFF will have merchandise available, potentially together with Fungus’s currently untitled EP, and both bands promise more shows in the future, including when Torn From Flames reunites with Out F’ Sync on Friday, March 22 at SUDS for the first time since they crushed Sync in the final round at Battle of the Bands last summer.
