Amazing SciFi Shows That Are Still Great To Binge Watch

Amazing SciFi Shows That Are Still Great To Binge Watch

By Ronnie Kayla Neiman

Science Fiction is an amazing genre. It is often called “sci-fi,” and it is a genre of fiction where the content is imaginative but based on some degree of scientific realism. It relies heavily on scientific facts, theories, and principles as support for its settings, characters, themes, and plot-lines, which is what makes it different from fantasy.

There are a number of SciFi shows that range from a few episodes snd up to numerous seasons. Science fiction seems to bring out such an intense fanbase, no matter the success of the show on networks. A good example of that is Firefly which lasted only 14 episodes but was so popular with fans that it received its own movie years later. Star Trek also has a number of series, each had its own range of success with the fanbase. The original series lasted only three seasons but is very popular and celebrated sixty years after it first aired.

1.Stargate SG1

A show that followed a low--budget film from 1994 simply titled; Stargate which starred Kurt Russel, and James Spader. A movie where a ring-like object nearly two stories tall was found in Egypt and allowed an air force team accompanied by an archeologist to another planet inhabited by humans lorded over by an alien species that looked human on the outside. The show changed the casting but kept the original premise of other-worldly travel through a wormhole, saving humans and other species from a race of aliens that portrayed themselves as gods. The series follows a team, called SG1, the primary team for the Stargate program as they travel to other worlds, make allies and fight their enemies.

The team remains largely the same for the entire ten seasons of the show, though lead Richard Dean Anderson left at the end of season eight, but continued to make guest appearances for the rest of the series and one of the movies that followed.

The series lasted ten seasons and had two movies and two spin-off series.

2.Stargate Atlantis

Stargate Atlantis is the first spin-off series related to Stargate SG1. This show was originally supposed to follow right after the end of Stargate SG1 as a series but the other show continued and Atlantis aired simultaneously with the last few seasons of SG1.

This show followed the primary team of Atlantis but also focused on the running of the City of Atlantis, which was a technologically advanced city designed to sit on the surface of a massive body of water with the ability to sink under the surface and would also function as a massive spaceship.

This series only lasted five seasons and sadly had no movie to follow, though a third series, Stargate Universe followed the year after the cancellation of Atlantis. It was much less successful than SG1 and Atlantis.

3.Battlestar Galatica (2003)

A show that was remade from its original series that aired in 1978. The show was remade shortly after the horrible events of 9/11 and this show focused on a lot of political, economical, and human rights issues of a group of people trying their hardest to keep their species alive while been chased by the enemy that destroyed their colonies. Battlestar Galactica is a three-hour miniseries starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell with an ensemble cast.

The series follows immediately after the destruction of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol by the Cylons, a race of mechanical beings that developed the ability to have human-like Cylons. The survivors of humanity search for their original home; Earth while being chased by the Cylons and dealing with numerous issues that plague the fleet.

The pilot was a two-part mini-series followed by four more seasons and two prequel movies titled Razor and The Plan. This series is placed on a lot of most-watched lists because of the issues the show dealt with which include abortion, domestic terrorism, and election stealing. It received large amounts of awards for its special effects, storytelling, and acting.

4.Star Trek: The Next Generation

This series was the spin-off to the original Star Trek series, though it was over twenty years after the Original Series aired. As with the original Star Trek, TNG was still very much about exploration, "boldly going where no one has gone before". Similarly, the plots captured the adventures of the crew of a starship, named the USS Enterprise-D.

There were 178 episodes produced over a total of seven seasons, making it the longest-running Star Trek series to date, and the adventures of the crew continued onto the big screen in four movies.

5.Star Trek: Voyager

This series of star trek was aired when Star Trek Deep Space Nine was half-way through their own series, though finished years after that series had finished. Voyager was the third spin-off to the Original Series. Star Trek: Voyager (VOY) focuses on the 24th-century adventures of Captain Kathryn Janeway and her crew aboard the U.S.S. Voyager. The crew of Voyager combines forces with the crew of a destroyed Maquis ship in order to find their way home. Stranded over seventy thousand light-years from Earth, the crew tries to make the journey home while also adhering to the doctrine of exploration that Starfleet prides itself on.

Due to its great distance from Federation space, the Delta Quadrant is unexplored by Starfleet, and Voyager is truly going where no human has gone before. Voyager is fast and powerful and has the ability to land on a planet’s surface. It is one of the most technologically advanced vessels in Starfleet, utilizing computer circuitry that incorporates bio-neural circuitry.

Voyager aired 172 episodes over seven seasons from 1995 until 2001. While it didn't run for as many episodes as TNG did, Voyager was able to discover numerous new alien species and was better balanced with its gender ratio, with a female lead and several strong supporting female characters.

6.Warehouse 13

A unique series in that its genre is considered Science Fiction but it is also described as a dramatic comedy and supernatural. The series follows U.S. Secret Service Agents Myka Bering and Pete Lattimer when they are assigned to the secretive Warehouse 13 for supernatural artifacts.  As they go about their assignments to retrieve missing artifacts and investigate reports of new ones, they come to understand the importance of what they are doing.

Somewhat of a short-lived series with six seasons, but only 12 episodes in season 1, 13 in both seasons 2 and 3, season 4 was its longest season with twenty episodes and just six episodes in its fifth and final season.

These are only six possibilities of different Science Fiction shows to watch. There is always more to find, more to watch, and many more to love As Warehouse 13 is described; "Welcome to Endless Wonder."

Writing Can be More

Writing Can be More

By Ronnie Neiman

Writing is not always just a hobby. It is a way for people to share information, to share facts, and have opinions expressed. It is a way for some to have their voices heard.

Writing is the platform that I have used to express myself since the age of 10. It is the platform I use to share things that are personal to me, that others may glean inspiration from. I also write about social issues that I have learned about and hope to teach others. I also write for fun, fanfiction is my own way of dealing with personal stress, so I write about my favourite tv shows and characters.

Writing is just as important to use as video media is.

Writing as a platform

  • Sharing an Opinion

    • Sometimes writing out what you believe is easier than speaking it out loud.

    • It is important to remember the difference between opinion and fact.

    • This can sometimes help create a dialogue with like-minded people, or to hear the other side of the written opinion.

    • Explaining why something is your opinion can help others see your point of view.

  • Sharing Facts

    • It is telling history, recent or distant.

    • Sharing facts and history is to share the truth, it must be accurate

    • Most of the time this requires stating sources, even secondary sources such as knowing someone who has knowledge.

    • Facts are not opinions.

  • Sharing Personal Stories

    • This is writing from perspective, your own.

    • You are your own source.

    • It can be an outlet, but once shared, people will express their own opinion on your experience.

    • It can invoke emotional responses from yourself, and from those who read the stories.

Writing is an excellent platform to help you find your voice and to help others find their voice as well. It is reflective of who you are in the way you write. That is something rather important. Deciding to write as a way to share your opinions, stories and the facts about the world is important.

Holiday Decoration Pet Peeve

Holiday Decoration Pet Peeve

Decorating for a holiday can be quite a bit if fun no matter a person’s age. Even if untangling certain lights from their storage bin can be immensely frustrating. Each holiday comes with its own commercialization. Christmas has its origins in various religion ideologies but many now associate it with red and green decorations, gingerbread houses and stuffing yourself at family dinners.

Valentines’ day is no different. The holiday named after a saint is a holiday meant to celebrate peoples loves. However, the commercialization of the holiday means candy, flowers, Valentines cards and everything is decorated in red. Some mild decoration and a bit of candy isn’t the worst. It doesn’t go overboard.

Though going into a store to get some candy that most stores only sell during this time of the year and seeing to only an aisle full of Valentine’s Day decorations, candies and other related items right across from an aisle full of decorations, chocolates and toys for the upcoming Easter holiday was a bit of an annoyance. Valentines’ day was a few weeks ago when this trip to the store was made. It wasn’t even close to March, let alone close to easter.

It is fun to get the candy sometimes, but it is overwhelming to have decorations for two holidays weeks apart is overwhelming. Mostly it’s just annoying. One holiday at a time would be nice. It would allow people to focus on one holiday at a time. Having the themed commercialization and activities related to the holiday being the focus would go a long way to avoid the annoyance felt by people (including myself). One holiday at a time.

Writing is useful in so many ways. Yes, writing can be the cause of anxiety, but it can also create a lot of good things in our mind. Writing has been in our lives for ages. There are many reasons to improve your writing skills. Everyone writes messages, essays, or emails daily, so under no circumstances should the importance of good writing skills be diminished. Students are especially reliant on writing. Of all the tasks’, written assignments are the most common. They strive to improve learners’ analytic and critical thinking skills and most notably, they play a considerable role in students’ academics.

Education puts a strong emphasis on writing. Students have to produce numerous written assignments, including but not limited to various essays, reports, case studies, reviews, and projects. And although such tasks are prevalent in academia, learners still face trouble composing impeccable papers. The main issue though is trying to find the time for it all. Without a shadow of a doubt, writing can be tedious, mainly in academia. And love it or hate it, you can’t hide from completing such tasks and submitting them on time. Thanks to solid writing skills, you won’t spend hours researching, outlining, and drafting a document. The ability to compose an essay and make it smooth-running will save you bags of time you can spend on activities you like more.

Good Writing Skills are Required Everywhere. Whether you decide to continue your academic path, delve into accounting, or become a designer, writing is necessary. Good writing abilities allow you to better express yourself, convey a message to the reader, and have all the leverage you need to satisfy your needs. Writing helps polish speaking and communication skills. Writing documents requires following a specific format and structure. Besides, many jobs require proving writing skills during the application procedure. Let alone writing personal statements when enrolling in a college or university program or applying for a scholarship.

Have you ever thought about why prolific writers always think outside the box? Writing stimulates the brain. Expert writers can generate unique ideas and concepts quickly because of their writing experience. They know how to kick off the writing process, what to focus on to come up with exclusive thoughts, and, most importantly, how to keep their content high-quality.

Additionally, writing speeds up brain function. We’ve all experienced that fatigue and stiffness upon waking up. Needless to say, our brains can barely work first thing in the morning. Writing helps accelerate the brain. By writing several paragraphs, you immediately become more productive and active.

Writing also can enrich the imagination. Being persistent with writing requires generating a variety of different content. Although numerous of topics exist, you will sometimes have to produce essays on familiar topics. Of course, everyone will want to stand out when working on such papers. Good writing boosts your imagination and allows you to come up with one-of-a-kind concepts. Besides, it enlarges your horizons and lets you touch upon various subjects you would never think of in the past.

As stated above, these are only a few reasons in favour of the importance of writing. Yet, they prove entirely that outstanding writing provides a dozen benefits, like improved communication, enhanced imagination and creativity, and the ability to buckle down tasks faster without sacrificing their quality.

Playing Older Video Games

Playing Older Video Games

By Ronnie Kayla Neiman

With a lot of free time to spare, I have found myself playing older games. Usually, I play games that are intensely optimized for graphics and have enormous open worlds. Yet in recent weeks I have started playing other kinds of games.

One such game is Sims 3. It is not too old of a game as it only stopped releasing expansion packs in 2013. The Sims 3 has a lot more features that I enjoy over the newest Sims games. Sims 3 had a large open world for your sims to be a part of and to explore hidden rabbit holes. It had a lot more choices for employment and hobbies. It's also a smaller game GB wise to install if you need to install it digitally.

Another game I have been playing a lot of is SimCity Societies, which is a literal combination of the Sims games and SimCity games. In this games, a focus on build style is important as well as what point types the buildings give. It is meant to focus more on the 'fun' side of creating a city. I only recently got the game to reinstall to my modern PC after last getting it to work five years ago.

Another game I have been playing a lot of recently that isn't a Sim style game is State of Decay (the first one). It was a game originally intended to be a multiplayer online game, but the developers decided it would make a better single player game and the storyteller in me agrees. It was also designed for the original Xbox but works just fine on the PC. There is an amazing story taking place during this zombie apocalypse survival game.

There are so many older games, even ones more than a decade old that can be quite fun to revisit or even to play for the first time.
