There is a ton of cool stuff happening around Brandon this week. This Friday, September 15th, BUSU is hosting the Glow-Up Social at the Park Community Centre, there are going to be a bunch of food trucks set up at the Victoria Inn parking lot over the weekend, and local high school students are selling discount cards for several popular businesses around town!

The Glow-Up Social is the first in this reporter’s extended history with the university (roughly seven years) to be held off campus. The location, Park Community Centre (1428 Louise Ave.), has a capacity of 143 people at any given time during socials that serve alcohol, so get there as close to the start of the event for guaranteed admittance! Local entertainment guru, DJ Rhoni will be providing music, and tickets are $5.00 a piece. Bring valid, government issued photo ID, as it is an 18+ social.

On Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th, Food Truck Warz will be taking place in the Victoria Inn parking lot. Coordinated by BDNMB.com with support from Victoria Inn, the event will feature 15 gourmet food trucks, including but not limited to Tia Maria’s Taqueria, KYU Grill, Island Fusion, The Churro Shop, and the imaginatively named Pork Floyd. Admission is free, and the delicious treats can be consumed from 11:00AM to 9:00PM on Saturday, and 11:00AM to 4:00PM on Sunday.

In addition to all of the mouth-watering food, there will also be live entertainment in the form of several local DJs! On Saturday, DJ Red will be performing from 12:00PM to 3:00PM, DJ Xstatic will be performing from 4:00PM to 7:00PM, and DJ Dirty Bird will be performing from 7:00PM to 9:00PM. On Sunday, Finally Famous will be taking the stage from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, and DJ Dirty Bird will be closing out the Food Truck Warz from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.

Finally, if you like stuff and also saving money, find yourself someone who is selling discount cards on behalf of a local high school! Crocus Plains, Vincent Massey, and Neelin High Schools all offer versions of the same card, although some have different discounts for different places. If you aren’t sure where to look, turn to Facebook and ask around!
