Take Back the Night

The Brandon University Women’s Collective will be holding its annual Take Back the Night march on Wednesday, September 18th.  Sarah Tomchak, BUSU’s Women’s Commissioner, says that, “Violence against women is often kept behind closed doors. I’d like to see a big number of people out to support our women and show that we’re not going to be silent about it anymore”.

By-elections to be held next month

By-elections to fill vacant or appointed positions on the Brandon University Students’ Union (BUSU) will be held next month.  This decision was made after a heated discussion following an email sent out on August 27th by BUSU President, Stephanie Bachewich, which informed council that they would not be having by-elections, so appointed council members would remain in their positions with no elections until April 30th, 2014.

Upcoming referendum questions

At their council meeting on Tuesday, September 3rd, BUSU approved two referendum questions to be asked during the by-election.  One seeks to lower the amount of credit hours students need to be enrolled in to be automatically a part of BUSU’s Health and Dental Plan.  Currently, students who are in a minimum of 9 credit hours per term are automatically members, but can opt-out if they have alternate coverage.

Could Shakespeare make it big today? Many of the most renowned English writing legends rose to fame long ago, during the earlier years of the language we know today (not that English has stopped evolving—lol), and their talent and subsequent fame is oftentimes questioned when compared to those in the contemporary world.
