Beer vs Beer Finale Party a success

On Friday, March 22nd, the Students’ Union Drinking Spot (SUDS) hosted their annual Beer vs Beer Finale Party, giving students a final chance to crown their preferred beer of the year.  This year, Labatt Blue or Keith’s Pale were the finalists.  For entertainment, Brandon bands No Teddy, Torn From Flames, and Out F’Sync occupied the stage, playing into the early morning hours.

Beginning at 9:30 pm with a $3 cover, No Teddy opened the show with their original song “4/20”, and people slowly trickled in, swaying the beer count back and forth all night. Torn From Flames got crowds moshing and satisfied the crowd with encore song “I’m Made of Wax, Larry, What Are You Made Of” by A Day to Remember, while Out F’Sync revamped radio hits like Britney Spears’ “…Baby One More Time”, Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”, Carly Ray Jepson’s “Call Me Maybe”, and PSY’s massively popular “Gangnam Style.” In response to TFF’s childishly, somewhat creative and comical insulting hate song “Deep Fried D*cks” that trashed the highlighting cover band, Sync hilariously rewrote Nickelback’s “Photograph” (yes, that’s right!), much to the crowd’s amusement.

After OFS’s performance, bartender Karla Voth announced that SUDS had sold out of both Labatt Blue and Keith’s Pale, having distributed approximately 140 bottles of each this month, which meant a tie between the two brews. As a result, Voth promised to stock up for the following week, and that both beers would be on for $3 each for the rest of the term.

Overall, the social was successful for both the establishment and participants (except Labatt fans—Keith’s Pale definitely led the way all night!), and the music was excellent, the friendly competition adding a little flare to the night.

The next SUDS social is the Defrost Social featuring DJ Chaz on Thursday, March 28th at 9:30 pm, hosted by the International Students and BUSU. For more information on weekly schedules and upcoming events, visit the SUDS Facebook page.
