BU Mini University Summer Camp

From July 2nd to August 23rd, Brandon University has opened its doors to everyone aged five to fifteen for their 29th annual Mini U Summer Camp. Participants have the opportunity to engage in “a variety of social, recreational, and educational activities and experiences of the highest quality” revolving around fields of study like performing arts, science, computers, and the humanities.

“The Power of Music”

A new research project is currently being conducted in Brandon which aims to give some insight into music’s effect on our elderly citizens.  The project is titled “Music’s Influence on Appetite, Behavior and Sleep in End-of-Life Care” and is being spearheaded by Corey Friesen, a fourth-year piano performance student at Brandon University and music director at Trinity United Church.

CBS’s Assignment Saving Lives Bursary Program

Through the Canadian Blood Services’ Assignment Saving Lives Bursary Program, students can recruit new or previous donors and win bursaries of up to $1,500. Participants must recruit a minimum of 25 blood or platelet donors between June 1st and September 7th, 2013, “a time of year that traditionally results in lower than required blood donations throughout the province.”

Documentary on gendercide hits hard

On Wednesday, April 3rd, It’s a Girl was screened in the Elephant Room on the 3rd Floor of the Knowles-Douglas Building. Shot in India and China, the documentary focused on the systemic killing of individuals of a specific sex, or “gendercide,” through the stories of men and women whose lives were drastically impacted by local cultural practices and political systems adhering to patriarchal agenda.
